A brand new Liverpool 10K road race has been announced for 2027, with organisers BTR Liverpool preparing to welcome a combined 20,000 runners to the city for one of its biggest ever race days.
The inaugural BTR Liverpool 10K will take place on Sunday 14 March 2027, alongside the 34th staging of the popular BTR Liverpool Half Marathon, with entries opening at 8am on Wednesday 14 October 2026.

The new race has been designed to offer runners an exciting stepping stone between a 5K parkrun and the 13.1-mile half marathon, while giving more people the opportunity to experience running through Liverpool’s iconic streets.
A total of 3,000 places are available for the inaugural event, which will start at 8.45am on Canada Boulevard at Liverpool’s Pier Head.
New Liverpool 10K route revealed
Runners taking part in the new 10K will begin their race against the backdrop of Liverpool’s world-famous Three Graces – the Royal Liver Building, Cunard Building and Port of Liverpool Building.
From the waterfront, participants will head onto The Strand before following sections of the half marathon route along Upper Parliament Street, Princes Road and Sefton Park Road.
The course will take runners to a turnaround point on Croxteth Drive before continuing through Princes Park and rejoining the half marathon route at Princes Road.
Participants will then make their way back towards the waterfront for a memorable finish at the Pier Head.
Liverpool Half Marathon set for another record-breaking year
The announcement comes as the BTR Liverpool Half Marathon continues to grow in popularity, with organisers expecting another sell-out event in 2027.
First staged in 1994, the race has become one of the North West’s most established running events, attracting thousands of participants from across the country and beyond.
The 2026 event was the biggest in its history, selling out all 15,000 places.
For 2027, organisers have increased the half marathon capacity by a further 2,000 places, bringing the total to 17,000.
Almost 9,000 entries have already been secured, with BTR Liverpool anticipating the event will sell out for a fourth consecutive year.
For the second year running, the half marathon will start at Everton Football Club’s Hill Dickinson Stadium at 9.30am, before taking participants through Liverpool’s streets and finishing at the Pier Head.
The updated half marathon route, introduced earlier this year, features more of Liverpool’s famous landmarks during its opening four miles, including Liverpool Town Hall, the Chinese Arch and Liverpool Cathedral.
With both events taking place on the same day, organisers are confident that a combined 20,000 runners will take part.
BTR Liverpool is working closely with Liverpool City Council, Everton Football Club and partner organisations to ensure the event runs smoothly for participants, spectators, residents and visitors.
BTR Liverpool founder welcomes new 10K race
Alan Rothwell, BTR Liverpool Founder, commented:
“The BTR Liverpool Half Marathon is a crowd pleaser in so many ways – the location, the route, the people. And now we can attract even more runners by introducing a brand new 10K option.
“We hosted the city’s biggest ever half marathon earlier this year – and now we’re just five months away from once again smashing those numbers. We anticipate both races will sell out, bringing together an incredible 20,000 runners to Liverpool on Sunday 14 March.
“Liverpool is an iconic city – we’d say the best city in the world. And it deserves to host headline race events. Come and join the running fun and experience a day like no other.”
BTR Liverpool continues to grow its running events

The next event in the BTR calendar is the Liverpool Santa Dash on Sunday 6 December 2026, which attracted 11,100 Santas last year and is recognised as the UK’s biggest festive 5K fun run.
