Teenage Market provides opportunity for Sefton's budding entrepreneurs

Twenty budding Sefton entrepreneurs were among 30 stallholders at the recent Teen Market held at Bootle’s’ Salt and Tar venue.

Creative socks, homeware, jewellery, sports cookies, sportswear and even tarot cards were among the products on sale at the market which was entirely run by young people.

The event, took place on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th July, was organised with The Teenage Market, an organisation that gives young people a free platform to showcase their creative talents.

Salt and Tar was open for the Teenage Market from 12 noon to 6pm on both days as part of the venue’s latest family weekend. As well as market stalls, local performers and popular food outlets including The Bus Yard and Tipple n Cheese were there. Lock and Quay returned for the weekend offering local cask ales, while The Cocktail Apothacarium had plenty of fresh cocktails. And Ginger Cat Coffee returned, alongside C&C Cakes.

Councillor Paulette Lappin, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Economy and Skills, who was interviewed at the Teen Market by the BBC’s One Show, said:

“The recent Teen Market was a fantastic opportunity for young people to showcase their entrepreneurship entrepreneurial skills.

“And I was delighted to see that over 20 of the stalls were being run by young people from Sefton.

“Salt and Tar is part of our ambitious plans for the future of Bootle town centre, and young people are at the forefront of those, as the Teen Market weekend showed.

“I hope that by supporting our young stallholders we have helped to give them invaluable experience in the business world and become the next generation of business owners and employers.”

The BBC’s One Show are planning to broadcast the feature on the Teen Market at Salt and Tar tonight, (Thursday 15th August).

This week, Salt and Tar is geared up for its second Music Weekender headlined by local stars Red Rum Club, Status Quo and Sir Tom Jones.
