Queens, a hidden gem in Liverpool’s city centre, is celebrating its 5th birthday! Quite possibly the definition of a hidden gem, this quaint wine bar and bistro is tucked away off the beaten track on the picturesque Queen Avenue, just off Castle Street.
At Queens, you can enjoy excellent breakfasts, lunch specials, a seasonal a la carte menu, mouthwatering Sunday roasts and a constantly changing selection of speciality wines. The restaurant is open 7 days a week. Some have likened it to a backstreet bistro in Paris, so much so that you could easily lose yourself and forget you’re in Liverpool city centre.
Queens Avenue, home to artisan shops like wineries and art galleries, is far more laid back than Castle Street and Dale Street, where activity moves at a fast pace. One of Liverpool’s best-kept secrets, Queens, is located here. It has a cool private dining area in the basement, a warm and inviting dining area, a great atmosphere, and a friendly staff.
A la carte options like cod loin and ricotta, as well as lunch specials like steak frites and pork belly, are all available at Queens. The restaurant’s well chosen and elegant menu is always changing. The selection of wines is provided by the nearby speciality wine store R & H Fine Wines, whose Sunday roasts are especially delicious!
Speaking of their 5 year anniversary, Co-Owner Lucas said:
“Five years ago we opened on a hidden city centre backstreet and when you’re not on the high street with natural footfall, you have to work extra hard to get a name for yourself. People weren’t going to just come to us.”
“To open 7 days a week when you’re hidden away from the rest of the city centre is going against the odds, but fortunately our quality has shone through. Once people come here for the first time they most usually return and tell others about us — it feels great to still be here after 5 years.”
Queens is a place to get away from the bustle of the city centre and forget about the stresses of everyday life. It is tucked away on a quiet and charming boulevard. Many who have discovered it now find it to be their favourite because it is endearing and charismatic without being pretentious.
One diner recently said:
“This little restaurant offers beautifully cooked dishes accompanied with fine wine. We tried cauliflower steak, pan fried cod, pork belly and chicken. All elements on the plate tasted amazing. It was a culinary experience. Staff were attentive and friendly. I would highly recommend and visit again.”

“The service and ambience in the restaurant were excellent and the proximity to the kitchen with advice on choices being given by the chef was a great experience. We had a mixture of starters between us and then chose lamb, bavette and chicken main courses which were all delicious. The desserts were equally excellent. Queens is a real find and one we will return to as soon as possible.”
