Liverpool Sculpture Prize is open for submissions

A new Liverpool Sculpture Prize is currently accepting applications from artists. Those selected would have their work featured for a period of twelve months, and will receive a prize fee of £2500.

Liverpool BID Company and Liverpool Parish Church are the organizers of the Liverpool Sculpture Prize, which is open to sculptors residing and practicing in the UK. Sculptors can submit their entries from Thursday 8 February, and the submission deadline is 8 April 2024. The winning entry will be selected by a panel comprising individuals from various fields, including the arts, business, and creative communities. The winning sculpture will be unveiled to the public in June 2024.

The art piece will be exhibited at Liverpool Parish Church and can be viewed either on the plinth located on Chapel Street or in the church gardens that offer a stunning view of Liverpool’s waterfront. The plinth previously showcased ‘Christ on a Donkey’ by Brian Burgess and The Liverpool Plinth from 2018 to 2023. Liverpool Parish Church’s garden has also hosted various art installations in the past, including Ranti Bam’s work for Liverpool Biennial.

Bill Addy, CEO of Liverpool BID Company says:

“We have a long running commitment to public art and it is a vital ingredient in everyday life in Liverpool. We wanted to develop a sustainable prize that would be open to artists across the country and we are excited to see the submissions we receive. We are looking for artwork that is thought provoking, animating and that will catch the eye of those who walk past. This is a high profile location with tourists, office workers, residents and visitors on its doorstep”.

Rector of Liverpool Revd Canon Dr Crispin Pailing is from Liverpool Parish Church said:

“Our ambition with the Liverpool Sculpture Prize is that it attracts artists both young and old to submit their work. We know that the opportunities for exhibition for artists, particularly sculptors, are increasingly few and far between, especially in the public realm. This prize is designed to provide real support and ambition to promote artists who need it”.

You can see here for details and applications are open now until 8 April 2024.
