Merseyrail customers to benefit from new station facilities

Merseyrail customers to benefit from new station facilities

Thanks to the implementation of a station’s improvement plan, customers on the Merseyrail network will shortly enjoy fully refurbished toilets that represent an investment of over £300,000.

Liverpool Central’s toilets will undergo a complete renovation, and Moorfields, Bank Hall, and Hightown will all receive brand-new, fully accessible facilities. Additionally, we will refurbish the existing toilets at Moorfields station.

The toilets at Southport Station have also just been fully renovated.

Liverpool Central had undergone renovations back in 2012, but after 11 years of operation, customer feedback indicated that they were in need of an update.

The network’s flagship station will undergo a complete renovation with new restrooms, hand dryers, and sinks as part of the ongoing work. Improved ventilation will be installed in addition to new wall and floor tiles.

Suzanne Grant, Commercial Director at Merseyrail, said:

“We always aim to provide the best customer experience possible, and we know how important facilities such as these are for people travelling on Merseyrail.

“The toilets at Liverpool Central are well used and we are delighted to be able to get this work underway. The improvements at Moorfields, Bank Hall and Hightown will particularly benefit disabled customers. I’m sure those using them will be delighted with the newly refurbished facilities.

“We know that there will be a period of disruption for customers while this work takes place, but the positives will be clear when everything is completed.”

Liverpool Central’s toilet refurbishment work will begin in the middle of January and take around 12 weeks to finish. After six weeks, the refurbishment of the male and female toilets will be finished, and work on the baby changing area and facilities for the disabled will begin.

If toilets are needed during the renovations, customers should use Lime Street or James Street stations. Throughout the refurbishment, passengers with disabilities will still have access to Liverpool Central’s designated toilets.

The contractors will start the work at Moorfields station by the end of January and complete it within five weeks.

On Monday, January 15, work will start on the Bank Hall and Hightown stations, and it will be finished soon after. Network Rail and the Department for Transport are financing the investment at Moorfields, Bank Hall, and Hightown stations through the Access for All Mid-Tier Scheme.
