Submergence and Singularity artwork arrive in Huyton Village for Knowsley Borough of Culture

Two impressive pieces of artwork by Squid Soup have arrived in Huyton Village, part of Knowsley Borough of Culture.

Submergence is a reflective, immersive walkthrough experience that is now on display in Sherbourne Square in Huyton Village Centre. Consisting of thousands of individual points of suspended light, visitors are encouraged to enter the artwork to experience the amazing light illusion for themselves.

Alongside Submergence, Singularity has also come to the town. The additional artwork consists of 6720 controllable mapped points of light, made up of over 20,000 LEDs and is located just outside Peacocks.

Both impressive artworks will add a new and fascinating dimension to life after dark.

When will Submergence & Singularity be in Huyton

Saturday 12 February– Saturday 26 February 
5pm – 10pm every day 

Both artworks will be illumined continually during these times.

An official launch event will take place on Saturday 12 Feb. Spark Drummers will perform in the village centre from 4pm – 4.30pm, 5.45 – 6.20pm and 7pm – 7.30pm Submergence and Singularity will be switched on at 6pm.

Do visitors have to arrive at a particular time to experience Submergence & Singularity?

No, visitors can arrive anytime from 5pm onwards each day. They will be illuminated until 10pm. 

Where is it happening?

Submergence will be located in Sherbourne Square, and Singularity will be located in ‘The Forum’ outside Peacocks in Huyton Village.

I am driving, where can I park?

Short stay and long stay parking is available in Huyton Village. Details are available here. 

Do I need to book tickets in advance?

No, the event is free, and you don’t need to get tickets.

Who is the event for?

The event is open to everyone, and it is free to attend. 

However, people should be aware of the following:

  • The event is outdoors and there will be no seats available for the general public 
  • Given the time of year, the weather cannot be guaranteed so appropriate clothing should be worn
  • In the event of cancellation due to extreme bad weather this will be publicised on Culture Knowsley website and social media.

Are disabled visitors or those with additional needs able to visit?

Yes. The site is accessible for wheelchair users.

Are toilets available?

No, public toilets will not be available

Will food and drink available?

Visitors will be able to buy food and drink from retailers, bars and restaurants in Huyton Village.

Will I be able to take photographs?

Of course! There will be plenty of ‘instagrammable’ moments so please snap away! Please tag @cultureknowsley in any pictures you post on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook.

Have I seen Submergence & Singularity somewhere before?

These artworks have travelled all around the world, but this is the first time it has visited Knowsley. It has been created by Squid Soup – you can find out more about them and their work here https://www.squidsoup.org/
