New Liverpool underground cocktail lounge bar Dwntwn closes

Liverpool’s latest contemporary, independent high-end cocktail lounge opened its doors on the 18th September 2020 and has today with the government’s announcement been forced to close after being open less than a week.

New Liverpool underground cocktail lounge bar Dwntwn closes

Posting a statement on their social media earlier today reading:

Dear all, firstly we want to again thank you all for the support we have received during our opening period, with today’s current climate and the new curfew rules imposed by the government nationally we have made the extremely hard decision to keep our doors shut till the world is a little more normal – opening any type of business in this day and age is tough, but with the new rules it makes it impossible for us to offer the service we wish to provide.

We are going to monitor the rule changes on a daily basis and will have an update soon. This isn’t a goodbye. It’s see you soon.

Love, dwntwn x

Positioned on Harrington Street under the recently opened Abbey Road Bar & Kitchen the site was aimed at the 9pm to 2am crowd with a live piano player, cocktails and a relaxed vibe. With this afternoon new restrictions including a 10pm curfew for pubs and restaurants that could remain in place for six months as the UK battles coronavirus beyond Christmas and into the spring.

This comes as a double whammy for the owners as the site above Dwntnw, Abbey Road Bar & Kitchen, also closed on the same night it opened back on the 20th March – when a full lockdown was implemented from midnight.

Commenting Operations Manager Brendan Soprano said:

“This is not the news anyone in the hospitality industry wanted to hear but we have to adapt. All full-time staff from Dwntwn  will be moved into some of our sister sites which operate more during daytime business hours.”
