  • August 30, 2020

Families across the city region returning from abroad are being reminded they cannot send their children back to school straight away if they have been to a country that is not on the Government’s travel corridor list.

People who have returned from countries that are not included have to self-isolate at home for 14 days.

Liverpool School return warning for families that have been abroad

Any family that is affected needs to let their school know – but they will not lose their school place and will not be fined for absence.

Director of Public Health, Matt Ashton, said:

“The big risk to schools is infection coming in through the community, for example through people who don’t know they are carrying it mixing with staff or pupils outside and it infecting them.

“Therefore anyone who has returned from a country that is not on the Government’s travel corridor list must make sure they anyone they travelled with stay at home for 14 days and get tested if they develop symptoms.

“Following the guidance will help protect our schools, children and staff and keep infection rates across the city under control.”

Anyone developing coronavirus symptoms must get tested by booking a free test on the NHS website at www.nhs.uk/coronavirus or by calling 119.

An up-to-date list of countries affected can be found at: www.gov.uk/guidance/travel-advice-novel-coronavirus

The Foreign & Commonwealth Office currently advises British nationals against all but essential international travel. Travel to some countries and territories is currently exempted.

When you arrive in the UK, you will not be allowed to leave the place where you’re staying for the first 14 days you’re in the UK (known as ‘self-isolating’) unless you’re arriving from an exempt country.

This is because it can take up to 14 days for coronavirus symptoms to appear. If you’re travelling to the UK for less than 14 days, you will be expected to self-isolate for the length of your stay. If you’re travelling from an exempt country you will not need to self-isolate.
