The City of Liverpool College to help create jobs for local people

The City of Liverpool College has been chosen by Lovell Homes as its training partner to upskill employees, as part of its ambition to create hundreds of skilled jobs for local people in Liverpool City Region.

The news comes after the construction firm was awarded a contract for 100 homes to be built in the city region and spotted an opportunity to provide skills and employment for local people. As part of the partnership, The City of Liverpool College has designed a bespoke training programme including pre-employment training and apprenticeship training, giving Lovell access to the best candidates.

The project will see hundreds of local people being trained over 5 years, gaining experience and securing jobs with Lovell. Through the courses in carpentry and bricklaying, candidates will take on a two-year apprenticeship, with four days on site gaining practical work experience and one day at the College per week, gaining the knowledge and skills they will need to hit the ground running.

The partnership marks the first time Lovell Homes has involved a training partner in this capacity, and will enable them to ensure they are securing the very best employees, while candidates will have the opportunity to secure long-term, sustainable employment in a sought after trade.

Sophie Park, Director of Workforce Skills at The City of Liverpool College, said:

“As the college for business, the partnerships we have with employers are an incredibly important part of what we do and for the employers, they have access to the very best quality training to rest assured that they’re employing the very best candidates for the job. This is the first time Lovell has partnered with a training provider in this way, and it’s an incredibly exciting opportunity for both of us to create high quality jobs for local people.

“Working in partnership in this way means that we can create bespoke training for the employer, to provide them with the specific skills they need, while giving candidates the very best practical skills and knowledge for a successful, long lasting career. We’re looking forward to seeing the results of this partnership come to fruition over the coming years.”

Paul Woby, social value manager at Lovell, said:

“We’re delighted to be partnering with The City of Liverpool College to deliver a pre-employment programme for local students who are passionate about construction. The mix of skills and training combined with practical experience will give the students a really good grasp on the industry.

“The college team has been fantastic to work with, creating a bespoke programme that is tailored to our offering at Lovell. We’re looking forward to starting the training as well as taking two students to our Denford Road site to gain two weeks experience in brickwork or carpentry and joinery.”
