St. Joseph’s Hospice is inviting the local community to join it in celebrating its 50th Anniversary at a Garden Party in the hospice’s beautiful woodland gardens on Saturday 29th June, from 12-4pm.

It will be a fun day for the whole family with face painting, games and activities for the kids, stalls selling crafts and gifts, as well as a range of food and drink stalls, including ice cream and a BBQ.

The hospice’s catering team will also be selling delicious homemade vegetarian food, made from produce from its own kitchen garden. They will also have a special hospice deli stall selling homemade jams, chutneys, bread, granola, sweet and savoury treats, plus ‘pup star’ biscuits for furry friends.

Children can also take part in the hospice’s famous Teddy Bear Parade through the woodland garden, a hospice tradition enjoyed by generations of local families. To take part, children should bring along their favourite teddy for a chance to win a prize, with categories such as Best Dressed, Most Unusual and Oldest Teddy…have you got a teddy as old as the hospice?

The hospice Garden Party is free to attend and you can just turn up on the day but the hospice is asking local families to make every effort to come along and help to raise much-needed funds for the hospice, which provides compassionate end of life care to local people and their families.

The hospice, on Ince Road in Thornton, first opened its doors to patients on 19th March 1974 and it has cared for thousands of patients and local families over the five decades since.

Maxine Armstrong, head of fundraising and lottery at St. Joseph’s Hospice, said:

“We love to open up our gardens and celebrate each summer and, this year, its extra special as we are celebrating 50 years of St. Joseph’s Hospice in Thornton. Bring your family and friends and show your support to the hospice at this lovely family event…we can’t wait to welcome you all.

“We are still in need of some donations to help make the day a great success. If you can donate any of the following items by dropping them off at the hospice in Thornton or any of our charity shops, we would be very grateful. We need unopened bottles (anything from wine to shampoo), bottles of prosecco, new unwanted gifts, and new unopened toys. We hope to see you there!”
