New food hall GPO opening at Metquarter to create over 130 jobs

With the latest ONS figures revealing that unemployment is at a four-year high Metquarter in Liverpool is thrilled to announce the new food hall, GPO, will create over 130 jobs in the city across the build and post-opening.

Hospitality has been one of the hardest hit industries in terms of closures with a fifth of hospitality sector jobs lost in 2020 as a result of the pandemic. GPO will fill some of the job losses providing a huge boost for the local area.

The food hall will focus on a wide variety of cuisines under one roof, championing independent regional operators above all else, providing a vital platform for smaller businesses.

Matt Bigland, Founder and Director at The Milestone Group said:

“We’re thrilled to be able to provide job opportunities in the city, especially across hospitality which has been crushed by the pandemic. We’re passionate about showcasing the best in up-and-coming food and drink talent in the heart of Liverpool.”

The Milestone Group is at the forefront of the food and drink scene in Sheffield and has been for nearly 15 years. Our portfolio includes Sheffield’s premier gastro pub, The Milestone, in historic Kelham Island, two fabulous craft beer & pizza restaurants, Sheffield’s only rooftop bar, and the city’s first food hall, Cutlery Works.

Jennina O’Neill, Metquarter Centre Manager said:

“In an industry where job creation is so desperately needed, we’re delighted to welcome the GPO food hall to Metquarter. The 132 jobs created by the opening and across the build will be a huge boost for the local area especially as the team are so focused on championing the best independent operators in the city. We’re excited to see the plans come to life over the coming weeks and look forward to welcoming visitors this spring.”

GPO is on the hunt for three additional F&B operators to sign as tenants to join the varied range of food operators already signed up. If you are interested, please contact Matt Bigland on matt@the-gpo.co.uk
