Mersey Ferries announces River Explorer Cruise ticket sales increase

Mersey Ferries has reported that its River Explorer Cruise has achieved sustained success, after experiencing a rise in the number of visitors to the popular attraction.

The sales of tickets rose by over 12% during the summer of 2023, surpassing the levels seen prior to the pandemic, and establishing the iconic Ferries as a “must-visit” destination in the Liverpool City Region.

The Mersey Ferries River Explorer Cruise has been operating for many years across the Mersey, allowing passengers to see Liverpool City Centre and the Wirral’s landmarks from a unique perspective. The Cruise is not only popular with tourists, but it also attracts regular visitors, including locals who want to experience the joy of travelling along the Mersey on the most recognizable boats on the river, the Royal Iris and Snowdrop.

Councillor Liam Robinson, Portfolio Holder for Transport for the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, said:

“To travel on the Mersey Ferries is a unique experience that’s steeped in history, with highlights including playing host to The Beatles and being a vital cross-river service for more than 800 years. To be able to share our history with visitors from around the world and introduce them to a little more of the place we call home is a great privilege.

“We have the many people behind the Mersey Ferries to thank for their continued hard work to keep the boats moving, without them we wouldn’t be able to operate our daily services. It’s thanks to this continued dedication that we hope to be celebrating a lot more successes in the future.

“And with the fantastic news that Mersey Ferries will be building a new vessel here in the Liverpool City Region, the future of the ferries looks secure for generations to come.”

The River Explorer Cruise is available all year long and lasts for 50 minutes. It is currently accessible from the Seacombe and Liverpool Gerry Marsden terminals.
