The Whitechapel Centre, the leading homeless charity, is celebrating a decade of hosting the Liverpool Sleepout!
The crucial fundraising event, which aims to raise awareness and vital funds to end homelessness in Liverpool, is finally returning.
Since its inception in 2014, the event has seen thousands of participants swapping their beds for a night under the stars, with only sleeping bags and cardboard boxes.
This year’s Sleepout will be held on Friday, 27th September 2024, at St James in the City churchyard, where hundreds of people are expected to take part. The event not only raises essential funds for the charity’s ongoing work but also offers participants a moving insight into the challenges and vulnerabilities faced by those sleeping rough.Â
Toni-Marie, Fundraiser at The Whitechapel Centre said:
“In the last few years, homelessness especially in Liverpool has seen a massive increase. As a local independent charity, we are seeing the detrimental impact of homelessness on people’s lives. Our Liverpool Sleepout event doesn’t only raise vital funds for us to continue our work, but it educates and opens societies eyes to the vulnerability some face on the streets every night.”
The Whitechapel Centre’s outreach teams cover the city region and are out on the streets from early morning to late at night, supporting people who are sleeping rough and responding to calls from the public to the Always Help Available 24-hour phone line – 0300 123 2041.
Could you sleep outside all night with just a sleeping bag and cardboard shelter to protect yourself and raise money to help end homelessness? Take part and your support really can change lives.Â
