Liverpool residents can apply for new green scheme

Liverpool residents are being given the chance to make their home more energy efficient and save money at the same time.

Liverpool City Council has been awarded government funding to install external wall insulation in homes that meet the criteria and would benefit from the scheme.

Eligible residents could save up to £375 per year once their home is insulated correctly.

Insulation not only stops 35 per cent heat loss through the walls, but it also prevents illnesses which arise from living in a cold home, such as pneumonia or asthma. It can also make homes more environmentally friendly.

To qualify for free external wall insulation, residents must meet the criteria below:

  • They must be a homeowner with a combined household income of less than £30,000
  • Their property must be of solid wall construction
  • The property must have an Energy Performance Certificate rating of E, F or G

Anyone who believes they may be eligible for the initiative, is urged to contact Healthy Homes on 0800 012 1754 and quote “Green Homes Grant”, or email healthyhomesprogramme@liverpool.gov.uk.

Funding is limited and will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. Please contact the team no later than Friday 12 March 2021.

Liverpool’s Cabinet Member for Housing and Regeneration, Councillor Barry Kushner:

“17% of people in our city live in fuel poverty, which is made worse because their houses don’t have adequate insulation and are not heated properly.

“I urge anyone who meets the criteria to come forward. This scheme is fully funded for those eligible, they will get their homes properly insulated and will save money on their energy bills.”

Healthy Homes Team Programme Manager, Anju Rooney, said:

“We’re committed to working with residents to make their home warmer and reduce energy bills.

“Energy costs are rising and by installing insulation measures, it will keep heating bills down, and at the same time make someone’s living space more comfortable and improve the appearance of their property.”
