HYPE Merseyside launch free activities for children in Wirral parks during summer holidays

HYPE Merseyside, working in partnership with Edsential and Wirral Borough Council, is inviting children aged 5 – 16 to join its free ‘Park Explorers’ activities at Birkenhead Park and at Central Park, Liscard from Monday to Thursday (10am – 2pm) every week in August 2021.

A healthy lunch and drinks will be provided each day for all children registered for activities.

The activities, which are part of the Vibrant Parks initiative, are designed to allow children to explore their local parks, meet new friends and enjoy five different activities. A special Treasure Hunt will invite children to use a park map to find clues that will lead them and their friends and family to some hidden treasure.

With more than 100 living creatures and species in each park, the Bio Blitz activity will see youngsters learning about their local environment and tracking and noting the wildlife that they encounter on their adventure. There will also be Scavenger Hunts to discover the wildlife within the park – to complete the challenges, you’ll need to find them all.

For the Walk Run Cycle Play activity children will be able to get active and explore their local park using checkpoints along the way, as well as joining in an array of other sports and games. For young cyclists, the HYPE Merseyside team will also be offering a Bike Basics service. Children will be able to bring their bikes for a free health check and the team will provide you with advice and information on keeping bikes safe and well maintained.

HYPE Merseyside launch free activities for children in Wirral parks during summer holidays

Matthew Houghton from HYPE Merseyside said: “Our free Park Explorer events are all about utilising the beautiful green spaces in our local area and getting kids outdoors and exploring them.

“At HYPE Merseyside we are always focused on delivering free or low-cost activities that are fun and accessible for children of all ages and from all backgrounds. Through the various activities, local kids can learn about their local environment, spend time being active rather than sitting indoors.

“They’ll also enjoy a good healthy lunch and get the opportunity to make some new friends. The summer holidays can be tough for parents and children alike, especially if money is tight. We hope that this scheme shines a light on the brilliant free resources that are available locally and encourages more families to get out and about this summer.”

Booking is essential and Park Explorer places are currently limited to 50 per park per day. To book, visit the Park Explorer’s page on the HYPE Merseyside website and complete the form. You’ll need to choose your preferred park, preferred date and provide some information about your children and the team from HYPE will be in touch to confirm places.
