Huyton Village Centre welcomes installation at Archway Road railway bridge

Huyton Village Centre welcomes installation at Archway Road railway bridge

Residents and visitors to Huyton Village Centre welcome installation of lighting at Archway Road railway bridge.

This key gateway into the village now features a colour palette of lights (32 in total), helping to create a warm welcome into Huyton.

The new lighting will also help to improve feelings of safety for pedestrians during the hours of darkness.

Archway Road railway bridge is the latest asset across the borough to feature a lighting display and compliments the other lighting structures in other areas – notably Greystone footbridge and St Mary’s Church in Prescot.

Like our other illuminated assets in the Borough, Archway Road railway bridge can also be programmed to display a certain colour to show our support for key dates and activities.

The project has been funded through the Metro Mayor’s Town Centre Fund and plans are also being progressed to illuminate Huyton Parish Church.

This latest project supports the Council’s ten year development plan for Huyton Village Centre. Work is well underway on the development plan with 14 shop fronts having benefited from a contemporary makeover, which is helping to attract more businesses into the village centre. A number of key development sites are primed for development following the demolition of the Council’s Yorkon Building on Archway Road and The Venue on Civic Way.

Free parking is now available in all Council-owned car parks, helping to attract more visitors into our town centres.

Make CIC will also be taking over two empty premises in the Village Centre and operating ‘maker spaces’ with a view to encouraging and supporting new business start-ups and the spaces thriving as people and organisations share their knowledge and experience with others.

A Management Development Partner will shortly be announced that will help to accelerate the development plans as well as identifying additional funding streams.

Cllr Tony Brennan, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said:

“It’s great to see our development plans continuing with this latest project now complete. The lighting has transformed the bridge and provides a sense of arrival into Huyton.

“We are committed to continuing with our development plans for Huyton and we are now working on our bid for Round 2 of the Government’s Levelling Up funding which would help us to accelerate our plans for Huyton.

“Future plans include the creation of a commercial district, a station gateway, Derby Road high street improvements and there will be lots of opportunities for the public to have their say to help to shape our plans.”
