Liverpool is set to be the new home for Hollywood stars! With the announcement that one of London’s leading film and TV studios plan to open a major new complex in the city.
Twickenham Studios in south-west London, home to popular productions such as Black Mirror and War Horse, will expand with the new base located at the 1930’s art deco former Littlewoods headquarters. Once the home to the football pools, the premises has been described as “a good fit” for major US films by Twickenham Studios’ Maria Walker.
Twickenham Studios will take over 85,000 sq ft of the 300,000 sq ft at the Littlewoods building, with other film and TV companies expected to follow. TV shows will also be made on the Littlewoods building’s two new sound stages, and the move comes amid a boom in TV and film production in the UK.
The city has been involved in many recent films and TV shows including Peaky Blinders and Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, using numerous outdoor locations in Liverpool. Tim Heatley, co-founder of the building’s developers Capital & Centric, said: “Twickenham Studios couldn’t be a better fit. They’ll bring a century’s worth of film-making heritage and help to write a new chapter for the creative industries in and around Liverpool.”
The announcement is another superb achievement for Liverpool, with the city growing from strength to strength, marking it to be one magnificent location on an international stage.
