A favourite in the city for its authentic Italian coffee, freshly baked Italian pastries, delicious sandwiches served on their homemade sourdough bread and award-winning gelato that’s made in house each day, Gran Caffè Duke Street site is the second site for the brand, with the original Gran Caffè located in the Italian Quarter in Williamson Square.

Renowned as a pasticceria – which translates to cake and pastry shop – Gran Caffè has been serving its Italian delicacies in Liverpool for over 10 years, headed up by brothers Paolo and Donato Cillo.

Originally opening as P&D Deli, the venue underwent a renaissance to reflect the finest quality ingredients used as well as the varied selection of traditional Italian coffees served within the venue.

Driven by a love for the rich atmosphere that can be found in every Italian coffee house, Gran Caffè transports the strong coffee culture of the Italian homeland to the city of Liverpool.

Gran Caffè has been created by Paolo and Donato from a passion of wanting to share an authentic Italian experience with their guests, serving an array of Italian delicacies that are hand crafted each day and supplied by their family members.

Their brother freshly baked sourdough and pinsa focaccia, and Donato’s wife, Antonietta, creates delicate cakes and traditional gelato each day.

All ingredients for Gran Caffè’s dishes are provided by their sister’s A Tavola da Maria Delicatessen and their coffee is ground from beans from their family’s roastery, Torrefazione Lucana, in Potenza.

Gran Caffè which translates to ‘Great Coffee’ will serve a selection of Italian dishes including their expertly made croissants that are handmade each day by the talented pastry team, pinsas and street food bites.

From classic croissants to those with delicious fillings including pistachio, strawberry and Nutella,  guests can also tuck into traditional Italian donuts, pasticiottos and a large selection of classic Italian cakes, Sicilian cannoli, French toast and bubble waffles.

But it’s Gran Caffè Duke Street’s signature savoury brunch croissants that are expected to be a sell out with generous fillings including burrata, tomato and pesto or parma ham, burrata and pesto and there’s even a bolognese croissant with bolognese, white sauce and parmigiano!

The food menu is accompanied by freshly made fruit juices, Italian coffees, luxury hot chocolates, teas milkshakes and Italian aperitifs.

Co-owner Donato Cillo said:

“Gran Caffè will open to the public on Wednesday 20th December and to celebrate, we’ll be giving away free Italian coffee and brunch pastries to anyone that visits and quotes “brunch”. We want to showcase our speciality brunch croissants that are new to Gran Caffè and have been created to offer something completely different on our menu.”

Co-owner Paolo Cillo added:

“Our menu has something for everyone, showcasing the best of Italian cuisine; from our popular sweet pastries that sell out every day to our light pinsas, and Italian street food bits including arancini, croquettes, mozzarella panzerotto and Italian sausage rolls, whether you want breakfast, brunch or afternoon snacks, Gran Caffè provides the perfect setting to enjoy freshly made, Italian delicacies in the heart of the Liverpool.”
