Brazilian midfielder Fabinho, or to give him his full name Fábio Henrique Tavares, has signed a new contract at Liverpool.
The new deal keeps him at the club until 2026 and rewards him for being one of Jurgen Klopp’s most important players in the last few seasons.
He follows Trent Alexander-Arnold who also signed a new contract at the end of July with several other senior players set to sign extensions over the coming weeks.
Fabinho, who joined The Reds in 2018, said to Liverpoolfc.com: “I’m delighted to have signed a new contract with the club.
“Since the beginning of the conversation, I was really positive about it because it’s what I wanted staying in this club, keep playing for Liverpool. Now this is official and I’m really happy.
“These last three seasons I’ve been really happy here. I learned a lot with the manager, with all the staff, with the boys as well.
“We achieved things together and for me I think it’s the best place to be, the best place to keep growing, to keep learning from the staff, from the boys. Hopefully we will keep achieving good things.”
The lighthouse, as assistant manager Pep Lijnders calls him, unfortunately had to play centre back on 24 occasions last season but when restored back in midfield in the run-in, he showed just how vital he is for this Liverpool side as they pushed on and clinched third place.
Over the past three seasons he has played 122 times for Liverpool scoring three and assisting seven whilst winning the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, Club World Cup and the Premier League.
The hope is that by locking another key player down to a long-term contract these trophies will once again make their way back to Anfield in the next few seasons.
“We already did this and we know our quality. We know with these players we can go really far in all the competitions.
“In the last year we didn’t win any trophies, so I think everyone is hungry to win more trophies, win more things, to keep our fans happy. Hopefully we will do this this season” said the former Monaco man regarding trophies.
So, for the next five years Fabinho will be running the midfield for Liverpool and that will be music to supporters’ ears as he has been world class since joining.
Also, he is more than happy to call Liverpool home.
“I live with my wife in Liverpool and she’s really happy.
“We will start our fourth season here, so she’s happy. She knows some people around our house, she likes to go practise sport as well and we like to walk with the dogs as well, so we can do this with no problem in our home.
“It’s good as well because we have our Brazilian friends, so we are always together. Yes, we’re really happy in Liverpool.”
If Fabinho is happy that can only mean that all Liverpool fans will also be very happy.
