Explore Liverpool is not only about the city region, it’s also about bringing you stories about the people of the city. Constantly inspiring and bringing positivity to one magnificent city, Liverpool is bursting at the seams with creators and ever bringing new spins and ideas even when everything including the kitchen sink is thrown at them.
One individual that caught our eye recently is truly inspiring Liverpool businesswoman – Alishia Thomas. If ever a story was told to make you want to follow your dreams no matter what obstacles stand in your way, then Alishia certainly sits within the ‘role model’ criteria.
From juggling motherhood to setting up her own freelance agency connecting working mums with jobs which have flexible family-friendly hours in the creative, marketing and digital industries, to creating her own sass in a glass Cherry Blossom Gin, we caught up with the mum-of-one for a little bit of insight into her success.
Alishia tell us a little bit about yourself?
Creative thinker, gin drinker and mother of one. Born, raised and worked in Liverpool my whole life.
Started my career in Liverpool ONE at the helm of their regeneration, after bouncing from a number of unsuitable jobs after having my daughter Noa, I decided to go freelance, built up my client database which now includes Royal Albert Dock Liverpool, Little World, East River and was proud to work with brands such as Rise Cycling, Camp & Furnace & Modo. After freelancing for over a year, a friend recommended that I brand myself up which is how M0THER was born.
Obviously, names cannot be trademarked but if you look closely at my logo, you will see that the ‘O’ is an egg which is all about hatching, conceiving and growing businesses and ideas.
How did you create the idea for your M0THER brand and what inspired you?
The daily struggle of being a working mum. The dreaded mum guilt of going to work and missing out on so many milestones, play dates and love from the little human you have created.
There are so many mothers out there who cannot commit to working full time as their employers don’t allow much flexibility, so I thought if I could connect my clients to other freelancing mums under the M0THER brand then we could all work together around our family lives and not around work. Life is too short to be unhappy or away from your loved ones so i think M0THER is on the cusp on something for work/ life/ motherhood balance. Why should skills be lost, and women lose out just because they cannot commit to full time working hours?
What is your brand about?
Women, Mothers, Creatives. Creating more flexible working opportunities for mums. Allowing them to raise businesses and babies at the same time.
What does it offers and what is the future for your brand?
The brand keeps on evolving. We started off doing luxury gift boxes for all new, expecting and breastfeeding mothers: OH ME OH MAMA, but since starting M0THER the agency and launching our gin, we have rebranded so it all falls under the same name umbrella of Mother HQ, Mothers Gin and now Mothers gift boxes.
Just as our business continues to grow so does our client list, mother community, contacts, ideas, projects and collaborations ………. who knows what the next 9 months will hold?
