Duke Street is set to open its welcoming arms to a new bar, thanks to the team behind popular vegan and veggie friendly restaurant, Down The Hatch.
Thursday 13th August will see the launch of Ripolin, a brand-new late-night venue bringing you cocktails and bar snacks, all vegan and a whole lot of Duke Street nostalgia.
The venue, which was due to open the end of April, was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, but as the saying goes ‘good things come to those who wait’.
Ripolin will be open until 2.00am and is owned by Joe O’Garra who also works as general manager at Down The Hatch.
Joe has teamed up with the owners of Down The Hatch, Jay Baker and Conrad Sharp, bringing a bit of history to the style of the new bar.
Joe said:
“Conrad and Jay originally wanted Down The Hatch to be a bar, but then everyone started raving about the food. We all started talking about opening another bar about two years ago.
“When the right opportunity came about near the restaurant, we decided to go for it, and I began looking at the history of Duke Street for inspiration. I found that there was a paint store called Ripolin on the street in 1973, so paint has become the theme for the bar and influenced the decor. Even the cocktail menu has been designed to look like a colour swatch.”
“Having more time has given us a chance to get everything spot on, and during lockdown we’ve changed the venue completely which has increased capacity, so it’s been a blessing in disguise.”
The bar is set to be home to pop up ‘takeover’ nights, where people will have the opportunity to host their own night and split the takings. Nights already planned include A Woodford Reserve night and an evening hosted by Jagermeister. The team will also let the offer be open to anyone who wants to get behind the bar for an evening.
The venue is sure to bring that splash of colour to the social scene on Duke Street and will be bringing that little bit of creative palette to the city….
