Merseyside Water Rescue are a non-profit rescue organisation based in the heart of the city on Liverpool South Docks. The charity has been set up to aid the safety of not only the members of the public, but also other users in and around Liverpool South Docks.

Before the charity existed the only organisations that would cover Dock rescues where the emergency services. The newest rescue organisation’s main objective is “To preserve life, particularly those endangered by accidents or natural hazards in water, through the provision of Search and Rescue services, primarily in the area of Merseyside.”

With vital emergency services over worked, over stretched and under equipped, the team behind Merseyside Water Rescue approached several dedicated search and rescue volunteers to establish the charity. Securing a specialist service with the right equipment to give any potential casualty the best chance of survival, this selfless charity are the unsung heroes of the city that truly deserve the right recognition and funding support to continue their amazing work.

Iain Scott, founder of MWR says:

“Liverpool Docks and the establishments are extremely good and supportive of this charity and do everything that they can to make the docks a safe location, however deep water will always have dangers that MWR hopes to resolve.

A special mention to Ian Milburn who has not only dedicated all of his time as a trustee but has also dedicated a number of personal funds into the project in efforts to save life around Liverpool’s beautiful and iconic docklands.”

MWR now have a 12 strong volunteer crew and are looking to expand and promote this amazing organisation. The team can often be seen patrolling around and training in the docklands on busy Friday and Saturday nights, promoting safety by the water and attempting to deter any acts of daring, as history has shown that young drunk males are most likely to become a statistic of drowning. Also looking for none operational crew who can assist the charity further with their fundraising, the project is a great cause to invest in not only for self-worth but also to contribute to one beloved city.

It doesn’t end there, MWR are not just a rescue service, they also promote safe working near the water and are set to offer courses in water awareness and first aid in the very near future, to those who live, work and play in and around the city’s amazing waterfront.

At the moment MWR have set up a just giving page that will help fund the team with training and equipment, and you can also find collection tubs around most of the venues located around the Albert Dock district.
