Rough Trade, an independent music retailer, announced plans to expand its presence in the UK by opening a large new retail store in Liverpool.

The announcement follows a period of expansion for the independent company, which has experienced a threefold increase in its market share of vinyl records in the UK over the past five years.

The 6500 square foot store, set to open in the first quarter of 2024 on Hanover Street in Liverpool, will become Rough Trade’s biggest location in the UK and will feature its largest venue space.

The new store will join those in East, West, and Central London, Bristol, and Nottingham as Rough Trade’s sixth location in the United Kingdom.

This announcement comes after news of Rough Trade’s earlier this year European market expansion and the upcoming Q2 2024 opening of a flagship store in Berlin.

Lawrence Montgomery, Managing Director at Rough Trade, said:

“We are excited to grow our UK presence with a store in Liverpool. The city has such a rich musical heritage as well as a vibrant scene right now which we hope to honour and represent in the best way we can. The scale (both size and ambition) of the store shows our commitment and investment to the city. We can’t wait to delight customers in the record store and venue in due course.”

When it opens, residents of Liverpool will be able to browse their vast selection of music and merchandise in-store and take advantage of a busy event calendar that features both local and national performers, with tickets available through DICE.

The new store will also have a fully stocked bar and cafe, in collaboration with Dark Arts and Signature Brew, which will include a selection of draught beers provided exclusively by the London-based brewer and freshly roasted coffee from London roasters.

A number of important positions, including General Manager, Assistant Manager, Retail Supervisor, Bar and Events Manager, Bar and Events Supervisor, and Sales and Bar and Events Assistants, will be filled by Rough Trade Liverpool through hiring. The retailer is looking for dedicated and industrious music enthusiasts who are committed to building a thriving local music community and who love to share their expertise and recommendations with others.

Applications to join the Rough Trade Liverpool family are now being accepted through the careers page.
