Donate your unwanted instruments to Liverpool’s Royal Court

The Royal Court Youth Theatre in Liverpool is holding a month-long musical instrument amnesty in November.

Unwanted musical instruments ranging from violins to vuvuzelas, trombones to triangles are being collected. They will be given to the Youth Theatre’s young people.

The Royal Court Youth Theatre provides a variety of free opportunities for young people aged 6 to 25 from all over Liverpool. Regular workshops and sessions are held, designed by young people for young people, to provide an introduction and training for a career in the arts.

With hundreds of young people attending each week, they learn everything from acting to stage management, fundraising to scriptwriting.

Miriam Mussa, Head of Theatre Engagement said:

“These musical instruments, currently lying around unwanted and unplayed in homes across Liverpool, will go directly into the hand of a young person who will use them. Many of the hundreds of young people who come to our Youth Theatre have not had the opportunity to learn how to play the piano, or guitar, they haven’t had a lesson in sight reading or been part of an orchestra. Yet we know musicality runs at the very heart of our theatre experience.

Being able to play a musical instrument adds another string to your creative bow, and, most importantly, it puts you on a level playing with those who have had every opportunity to learn as much as they can for a life in the theatre and the arts. This is about levelling up, as well as tuning up”.

Instruments can be delivered to Liverpool’s Royal Court from 1st – 30 November.
