The upcoming musical production Now That’s What I Call A Musical! will be staged at the Liverpool Empire Theatre from Tuesday 4th to Saturday 8th March 2025.
Prepare to revisit the collection of songs that have defined your life as we commemorate the 40th anniversary of the legendary and highly successful compilation brand NOW. The album series “That’s What I Call Music” has achieved global sales of approximately 200 million copies. This enjoyable evening is brimming with popular songs from Whitney Houston and Wham! Blondie, Tears For Fears, and Spandau Ballet, among others.
The setting is Birmingham in the year 1989. Two school friends, Gemma and April, are engrossed in significant endeavours, strategizing their lives according to quizzes from Number One Magazine, and fantasising about kissing Rick Astley. Fast forward to Birmingham in 2009, where they are faced with the most feared occasion of their lives – the school reunion. The reunion of friends brings together elements of drama, past romantic relationships, and the physical sign of ageing as receding hairlines. As they reconnect, various aspects from their shared history begin to fit together harmoniously. The primary inquiry is: What was the purpose behind the excessive use of hairspray?
