Local man Aaron Temple tells us how his passion for fishing was turned into a successful business.

Well a little about me and how it all began…..

I got into fishing with my grandad at the age of 8 years old.  My grandad was a keen angler, he would always tell me stories about fishing whilst I was growing up.  At the time there wasn’t much to do locally, so one day I accepted the invite to give it a go and see a ‘big’ fish being caught.

We visited Princes Park in Liverpool and started float fishing, no sooner had he casted, his float started to move and he was landing a little fish. This was making me want to catch a fish!  He had told me what I had to do in order to catch, so after a few goes my float was in the water and I was patiently waiting.  I have never forgotten the first perch that I caught because I was told it was a record perch at 4.5Ib.  My grandad was proud of me and so many people that day made me feel ten feet tall, giving me compliments, and I have never stopped fishing from that day on.

I have fished for more than 30 years now in my local park waters, Sefton Park, Princes Park and many more great locations. I have become a knowledgeable angler catching many species of fish, from roach, perch, pike, eels and then onto catfish and big carp over 30Ib plus.

As I became a more experienced angler, local people came to see me catch on the banks as they were hearing about the big catches that I was landing.  Many local people would ask me for advice, so I would often share my expertise and help them catch, giving them the feel for fishing and the bug which got them hooked.  Many people don’t have the finances to enable them to afford all the correct equipment needed, so for many years I have helped people of all ages and genders get out on the banks to fish.

I decided to become a local coach, teaching angling and hiring out fishing equipment. I’ve now done this for over three years which has helped people engage with fishing more. I have a fishing group called XStream Fishing which is on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter in which people can follow.

Children under 16 years old who become a member can get free fishing lessons at times.  Adults over 16 years old can become a member and get involved in match fishing and have a lot more fun with the group, share knowledge, make new friends and learn more.

People using fishing as a hobby helps to motivate, empower, increase confidence and improve communication skills, so fishing can be really therapeutic for many people of all ages, genders and disabilities.

I enjoy helping people and that is why XStream Fishing is here in Liverpool, for the people, enjoying fishing in nice waters in the great outdoors.
