Liverpool endure worst performance under Jurgen Klopp with ‘confidence low’

Liverpool went into their away game to Brighton knowing that it would be a very tough game considering just how well Roberto De Zerbi has been doing with them since he took over.

His first game was against Liverpool with a 3-3 draw which highlighted the issues The Reds were having and this time round it wasn’t the same it was much worse.

In the first half The Seagulls were flying past Liverpool in every passage of play as it was so easy to cut through them but they went into half-time level at the break, somehow.

However it did not take long for Brighton to take advantage of just how poor Liverpool were as Solly March scored withing a minute of the restart slotting in from close ranger after a Joel Matip mistake.

Seven minutes later Ewan Ferguson slipped the ball through for March who got in between Ibrahim Konate and Andy Robertson before slotting it past Alisson.

The icing on the cake for Brighton came with ten minutes to go as Danny Welbeck flicked the ball over Joe Gomez before finishing emphatically.

All of this happened without Liverpool, a team who had 90 plus points last season, laying a glove on Brighton.

Jurgen Klopp went up to the away end attempting to apologise for yet another wretched performance from the side who look a shadow of the one who came so close to a quadruple not too long ago.

After the game Klopp said: “I can’t remember a worse game, not just at Liverpool, and that’s my responsibility. It’s a low point.”

Captain Jordan Henderson also gave an alarming interview after the match as he said: “It’s not good. We’re pretty low on confidence. The energy level is low.”

The Reds now have an FA Cup replay coming up in the week away to Wolves before a game against fellow ‘Big Six’ strugglers Chelsea next weekend with the season looking like it is already over for Klopp’s men unless there is a miracle in the Champions League round of 16 to lift hopes of supporters.
