Primary school pupils enjoy 'Mad Hatters Tea Party' courtesy of Everton in the Community and Liverpool Relish

Everton in the Community and Liverpool Relish ‘Dish Out’ A Mad Hatters Tea Party for Primary School Pupils.

Over 200 local school children enjoyed time out of the classroom for a ‘Mad Hatters Tea Party’ experience as part of an ongoing collaboration between Everton in the Community and catering firm Liverpool Relish.

The themed experience took place at the Royal Liver Building with attendees from Holy Trinity Primary School in Garston enjoying a breath-taking showpiece alongside activities which centered around their literacy, numeracy and art curriculum.

The eccentricity carried on way into the day with a magic show and a chance to get stuck into themed arts and crafts with the event bringing learning outside of the classroom and into a fun, imaginative experience for children from as young as five to as old as 11-years-old.

The school is one of a number of partner schools within the charity’s Premier League Primary Stars programme and through funding from the Steve Morgan Foundation, the charity is providing educational opportunities in the Speke/Garston area where 40 percent of young people aged 16 and over have no qualifications, almost double the national average of 22 percent.

The occasion sparked the best out of the children’s approach to learning with many jumping at the chance to tell the time through the clock projections whilst improving their literacy skills by reading the Alice and Wonderland classic, all of which, Primary Stars Programme Manager, Olivia Cardwell believes can be invaluable for the children’s development.

“Everton’s Premier League Primary Stars programme is all about bringing learning to life, be it inside the classroom, or out on the sports field.

“Normally, we utilise the theme of sport as an example, and whilst applying the ‘mad hatters’ theme isn’t something we’re accustomed to, the results are just as powerful and you can see how much impact the day has had on the children’s learning and enjoyment.”

The event provided well-established partners of Everton in the Community, catering firm Liverpool Relish with another opportunity to support the charity’s work by providing the themed venue and catering, which included ‘March Hare’s ham sandwiches’, ‘Queen of Hearts jam tarts’ and ‘Card Soldiers sausage rolls’.

The gesture follows on from its partnership with Everton in the Community which began through the charity’s Blue Family campaign, when the company donated a total of 11,000 meals to vulnerable families and individuals to the cause which at times saw in excess of 500 meals donated a week. You can see how much impact the day has had on the children’s learning and enjoyment.”

More recently, Liverpool Relish gave us another reason to celebrate Global Scouse Day, with the firm raising £525 through the sales of the popular dish whilst have also pledged to donate 5% of profits made from providing the catering for Laing O’Rourke staff on site at Bramley-Moore Dock.

It’s latest initiative to provide local children with a one of a kind experience as part of their education is the latest in a long-line of events planned between both Everton in the Community and Liverpool Relish as Chief Executive, Chris Foulkes explains:

“Working with Everton in the Community brings out the best in what we do. We’re committed to supporting our community through our Corporate Social Responsibility and their work echoes our ethos as a company.

“We can’t wait for the next project!”
