Premier League: Manchester City vs Everton; A visit to the champions awaits on the last day

  • May 22, 2021
  • Elliot Thompson

The season has been a weird one with many highs and lows for near enough every side.

Most fans will be glad to see the back of it due to the fact they have had to watch the vast majority of it sat at home.

However fans are back and Evertonians were able to watch a home win at Goodison Park, finally.

Only the second home league victory of the year and it probably would not have happened without the push of the Everton faithful.

With Richarlison scoring just after half-time it gives Everton still the slightest of chances of getting into Europe.

It would require other teams to slip up though and also the near impossible task of beating Manchester City.

Although the champions have looked slightly frail over the last few weeks so you never know what might happen but saying that their fans will be in to see off legend Sergio Aguero and of course they will be lifting the title.

It would take a mammoth effort for Everton to pull it off.

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti will know that but he is assured that his players will give it their best effort and will be ready.

The Italian said: “What I said a long time ago, it happened.  We wanted to fight until the last game for Europe.  We are there to fight.

“The motivation is really high, the pressure also. Maybe this is the most important game of the season, but mentally and physically we are ready.”

Two players who will not be playing for Everton are Seamus Coleman and yet again James Rodriguez.

The Colombian has really struggled with injury issues in the second half of the season and that has been a big reason why Everton have struggled.

He is their star man and to be without him for so many games would hurt any side in the world.

So it does make the task at hand on Sunday even more difficult.

It has been overall a disappointing season for Everton due to how good it should have been, there is a real chance they could still finish 10th which would be woeful.

All eyes will be on the transfer market in the summer with Ancelotti still in charge.

Onto next season where much better things are expected.
