Premier League: Wolves vs Liverpool; ‘I hope they will stay fit’

Finally a league game away from Anfield, it feels like forever since Liverpool have played away from their home ground.

In the Champions League they have had to and have won the two games which can only imply one thing, Anfield is cursed.

Six losses on the bounce after one of the greatest unbeaten league runs you are ever likely to see is soul destroying but with ten league games left now there is no time to dwindle on what has happened.

It is time to build momentum with a consistent side and consistent performances like the one in midweek.

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane both scored again against Leipzig and it was so refreshing to watch.

Chances were being created at every attack, the midfield ran the show with Fabinho back in his preferred position and the defence was solid with actual centre backs playing at centre back.

So the same lineup is needed at Wolves to build up ahead of steam and manager Jurgen Klopp is hoping for that especially with his new centre back partnership.

Ozan Kabak and Nat Phillips kept a clean sheet and didn’t put a foot wrong against one of the best German teams, on Wednesday.

Klopp said: “I hope they will stay fit. I cannot sit here and guarantee that.

‘They are still available and look good. If they are ready to go again then why should we change it?

“We want consistency. It looks really good”

It did look really good and has done in the Champions League knockout rounds so far, it needs to now happen in the league to if Liverpool have any hope of a late push for the top four.

It does, alarmingly, look unlikely though even with a win against Wolves but Nuno Santo’s side will be a tough nut to crack for Klopp’s men as the German described them as “a proper defending side.”

Roberto Firmino will be assessed for the game having missed the last two so it could be down to former Wolves man Diogo Jota to be the creative force.

In the reverse fixture it was not difficult for Liverpool as they ran riot winning 4-0 but it would be a surprise to see the same thing unravel this time.

However the Premier League champions did create a host of chances to score at least four against Leipzig so maybe just maybe the attacking fluidity is back and with no new injuries a bit of positivity regarding the Reds could be on the cards.

It has been doom and gloom recently so going to get back to back wins would be very much appreciated by all supporters.

As long as Fabinho is in midfield and big Nat Phillips is starting, supporters will actually look forward to the game.

They haven’t for a long time but we are in the run-in, Liverpool need to put a run of wins together to avoid mid table mediocrity.
