National Trust places you can visit in Liverpool

Want to experience the history and natural beauty in and around Liverpool? Well, you can thanks to National Trust who look after places we love from houses, buildings and gardens to coast and countryside.

You don’t have to be a member to visit some of these great places.

National Trust is a charity and membership organisation that look after Places of Historic Interest or Natural Beauty permanently for the benefit of the nation across England.

On your next day out make sure you pay a visit to one of these great places in or around the city region.

The Hardman’s House

National Trust places you can visit in Liverpool

Fancy stepping back in time to the 1950s. Go behind the scenes at Hardmans’ House and check out this fascinating house and photographic studio. 

The house was the photographic studio of E. Chambré Hardman and his wife Margaret which now contains over 13,000 features, objects and collections that are now looked after by National Trust. 

You will take a look at the people and stories behind the successful photography business of Burrell & Hardman.

The Beatles’ Childhood Homes

National Trust places you can visit in Liverpool

You don’t have to be a Beatles fan to know who the Beatles are. Visit the homes of Beatles legends John Lennon and Paul McCartney and explore where they grew up, and where the Beatles originally formed. 

You will take a trip down Penny Lane and visit both homes of the two men who changed the face of pop culture. 

Take the combined tour of ‘Mendips’ Johns home, and Paul’s home at 20 Forthlin Road, Liverpool.

Speke Hall

Visit this Tudor manor house in Speke, one of the finest surviving examples of its kind, and discover the stories of the people who have lived at Speke Hall. 

Enjoy a day out at the rare Tudor house which is surrounded by beautiful gardens, woodland and glorious views over the River Mersey. 

There are also regular events for everyone to enjoy, and you can also eat at the home farm restaurant.

Formby 

Take a walk or run along Formby beach and sand dunes, surrounded by coastal pinewoods. With plenty of paths to walk at Formby where you can come across some fascinating wildlife. 

When visiting you may spot one of the red squirrels in the Pinewoods or see one of the shipwrecks off the coast at Formby. 

Whether it’s a family day out, walking the dog or taking a run, Formby beach is the ideal getaway from the normal daily tasks.

Rufford Old Hall 

Visit this fine Tudor building located near Ormskirk, Lancashire and learn about the 500 years of the Hesketh family history. 

See objects and collections from across five centuries of Rufford’s and Lancashire’s history.

Dunham Massey 

Check out this Georgian house filled with treasures and stories located in Altrincham and walk through the garden for all seasons and an ancient dear park.

Dunham Massey was home to two families, the Booths and the Greys, and has over 300 years of history. 

You can also grab a bite to eat at the Stables Restaurant, Stamford Café and ice cream parlour when visiting this perfect parkland.

Tatton Park

Take a short drive to Knutsford which is home to National Trusts Tatton Park, an historical estate with 50 acres of landscaped gardens, 1000 acres of deer park and a medieval Old Hall. 

Explore this beautiful 19th century neo-classical mansion and enjoy the stunning outdoor space which includes 50 acres of glorious gardens which includes a spectacular fernery and the tranquil Japanese Garden. 

You can also take a tour of the hidden gem of Tatton Park, the Old Hall and explore the 2000 acres of landscaped deer park and woodlands.
