Scenic running places in and around Liverpool

Was your new year’s resolution to get fit? Here is a quick guide to some of the most scenic places to run and get fit in and around Liverpool.

Liverpool Waterfront

What better place to start your run than at the city’s maritime heritage, the Liverpool waterfront. The waterfront runs along the River Mersey and a combination of historic docks, also including the canal link. Take in the beautiful views along the way such as the Three Graces and the iconic Liver Birds.

Sefton Park

Mossley Hill Drive, Liverpool, L17 1AJ

A large public park situated in the south of Liverpool. A magnificent 235 acres to tread the paths on that daily run. Take in the amazing features and monuments of this grade I historic park. There are many parking points situated around the park.

Stanley Park

Liverpool, L4 2SL

This park is renowned as one of Liverpool’s most famous parks covering 110 acres. The Grade II historic park is popularly known as the divide between Liverpool and Everton football club.  Other features to take in along your route are the views of the impressive Isla Gladstone.

Birkenhead Park

Park Drive, Birkenhead, CH41 4HY

90 acres, the Birkenhead Park features parkland, woodland, meadows, two lakes and sports facilities. Reputed to be the oldest public park in England and elements of its design occur in Central Park, New York. This park is a grade I historic landscape.

Sherdley Park 

Saint Helens, WA9 5DE

The largest park in St Helens spans an impressive 336 acres. It includes an 18-hole golf course, open woodland and a lake. Beautiful views to take in while running.

Southport Promenade

Southport Promenade, PR8 1QX

Take a run along the country’s second longest pier. Take in the breath-taking coastal views and stunning coastline that stretches 22 miles across Sefton.

Crosby Beach

Crosby Beach, Mariners Road, L23 6SX

2.5 miles of coastline stretches along Crosby beach. Perfect location for clearing your mind while you take in the internationally acclaimed artist Antony Gormley’s (Another Place) sculptures.
