Charlotte Kirk is a local makeup artist and beauty therapist who owns The Dolls House Salon in Maghull, Charlotte has been working in the industry for over 5 years, which also included a year working in Dubai.

The Dolls House Salon has a great reputation, people from all over Merseyside travel to the salon to get their make up done.

Her brand continues to grow with a second salon due to open in Kirkby in December 2017.

Check out Charlotte’s blog below on makeup tips for the winter months…

Makeup Tips for The Winter Months

With the temperature dropping and the Cold Air creeping in, our skin tends to lose moisture and appears duller than ever.

For the best make up base you must firstly make sure your skin is well looked after and you’re following a daily skin care routine at home. Drink plenty of water.

You should exfoliate 1-2 times a week to remove any dead skin cells that are causing a dull complexion. My favourite exfoliator is dermalogica skin prep scrub.

Keep your skin hydrated with oil or water based moisturisers, ideally with SPF in. Even if the sun isn’t shining your skin is still exposed to sun rays.

If your skin is balanced your makeup is more likely to last through the cold weather.

My favourite foundation for the winter is YSL touché eclat, it has a radiant dewy finish which will give your skin that glowing boost it needs.

The eyeshadow colours I seem to turn to in the autumn / winter months are warm tones like coppers, golds, oranges, emerald greens, burgundy and deep browns, these colour will immediately brighten your eye colour and warm up your complexion. I love to add shimmery pigments to light up the eyes.

I like to use bronzers and blushers with shimmery undertones to add glow to the skin giving the illusion of more radiant, hydrated skin. Margin blush by mac is my favourite, it has a pinky gold undertone that gives your skin a youthful sheen.

To prevent cracked dry lips you want to add moisture to your lips before lipstick application. Elizabeth Arden 8 hour lip balm is the ultimate protection and hydration for your lips in the cold weather. Apply this and add a gloss or creamy lipstick over. Your lipstick will last all day !
