Food halls and markets are vast becoming massive in the city region, not only a great way to socialise but also a wonderful way to try out local, independent and international cuisine.
An amazing new addition to the communal style of eating is Woodside Ferry Village, a brand-new food hall which has opened on Wirral’s waterfront in Birkenhead. Led by the Woodside Area Community Interest Group, conversion work began in May and now the exciting food vendors have been announced.
Liverpool based Bacaro, has added Woodside Ferry Village to its successful Red and Blue Restaurants group. By using their culinary expertise in creating freshly made pizzas, dishes using homemade doughs and Bacaro special recipes, will undoubtedly broaden the appeal of Woodside Ferry Village as a food destination for visitors and residents alike.
The award winning Caffe Cream has its third Wirral outlet to provide brunch, lunch and dessert options through cooked breakfasts – with locally sourced ingredients, its own Wirral roasted coffee and homemade dairy and vegan ice cream. Caffe Cream’s ice cream uses traditional Italian batch production methods, including milks and creams from local farms, along with ingredients from the best of Italian flavour houses.
Cowfish Smokehouse menu of authentic American-styled BBQ street foods will be well-prepared, quality produce using traditional artisan Texan smoking methods. Its Chef/Pitmaster, Sean Vinten, started at Wirral Met College and then worked in Liverpool, France, Greece and the USA, where on a trip to Texas, the home of the ‘low & slow’ barbecue, gave Sean the food direction he was looking for.
EastZEast, a well-known food brand and household name throughout the North West, will open its first Wirral base, offering authentic foods of the Punjab, cooked fresh with traditional spices. As one the region’s leading award winning Asian restaurants, its menu will include Samosas, Kebabs, Chicken Tikka, Signature Lamb Karahi, Chicken Korma, Nans, Vegetable and Vegan Dishes.
The Refreshment Rooms began life in Rock Ferry, developing a successful Gastro Pub menu which they will bring to customers of Woodside Ferry Village. With ingredients locally sourced wherever possible, its tasty and wholesome dishes will include Beer Battered Cod, Steak and Ale Pie, Homemade Scouse, Crispy Chicken Fillet, Bangers ‘n’ Mash and a Chicken Sunday Special.
Sukhothai offers an authentic taste of Thailand through a range of Thai street foods, created by the popular Chef Lily. Lily started Sukhothai in 2016 having worked in kitchens worldwide, but decided to open a restaurant in England, and so Sukhothai was born. It has a large and loyal client base by creating fresh and flavoursome mixes of Thai, Asian and Fusion meals, such as Hand Rolled Duck Spring Rolls, Chicken Satay Skewers, Thai Dim Sum with homemade Thai Dim Sum Sauce, and Thai Style Halloumi.
Sharon Stanton, Interim Managing Director of Woodside Ferry Village, summarised, “With Bacaro Pizza, Cowfish Smokehouse, Sukhothai, Caffe Cream, EastZEast and the Refreshment Rooms on board, the diverse food dishes they will be all serving will make Woodside not only a place to visit but also bring new life to this fantastic building and the surrounding areas.”
