Charity Fundraiser extraordinaire Speedo Mick is currently halfway through a 1000 mile walk from John O’groats to Lands end. Mick started the journey on the 6th December from John O’groats and it will take at least 7 weeks to complete which will have him walking close to a marathon a day.
What makes the challenge even harder is he will be making the journey whilst being in just his speedos, goggles and hat. Mick hopes it will bring a lot of smiles to people’s faces, as well as raising awareness and vital funds to start up new projects in his local area.
The charity walk is to help raise funds for community projects for disadvantaged young people, creating opportunities to bring people together to overcome isolation and experience positive attention and affirmation and to hopefully broaden their horizons.
On Sunday (5th January) he arrived at Anfield in a Range Rover provided by Hatfields Liverpool to watch the Merseyside clubs in the FA Cup third-round. Supporters from both clubs helped raise the total to nearly £80,000 and his target is £100,000.
Crowds gathered on Friday (10th January) to meet Speedo Mick at the Hilton in Liverpool. A calf injury had put his 1000 mile walk on hold.
Now he has over come his injury Mick will continue his walk and heading to Lancaster, he is walking solo with no back up team, the going is tough, but the man has a heart of a lion.
Mick has resumed his 1000 mile walk for charity! Continuing his quest on Saturday 18th January, Speedo Mick left at 9.00am from Ormskirk and made his way into Liverpool.
Finishing at the Hilton Hotel in the City Centre, the journey continues this morning after an overnight stay. Mick will be heading down south to finish off the final 500 miles alone.
