Eight years after it last wowed crowds at the Southport Air Show, one of the RAF’s most iconic helicopters is making a dramatic return.
The life-saving Chinook helicopter, which has seen action all over the world, will fly into the 2023 show in September, performing aerial displays on both days of the nearly sold-out event.
Thousands of aviation enthusiasts and visitors are expected to descend on the resort over the weekend, which takes place on Saturday, September 9th and Sunday, September 10th.
The incredible Red Arrows have already been confirmed for Saturday 9th, as have the teeth-rattling RAF Typhoon for Sunday 10th and the inspirational Battle of Britain Memorial Flight for both days.
The RAF Chinook pilots last demonstrated the aircraft’s capabilities at the Southport Air Show back in 2015.
Cllr Marion Atkinson, Sefton Council’s Labour Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Skills, said:
“I would encourage everyone to snap up their tickets as soon as possible because this weekend will sell out fast, especially as under 16s are FREE!
“People from all over the UK and Europe make the trip to Southport Air Show each year, such is its illustrious place in the aviation world and we can’t wait to welcome huge crowds to the shoreline.
“Bring a picnic and sit on the beach, or park on the beach if you arrive early enough.
“There are plenty of ground attractions that will keep the kids entertained all weekend and once the flying programme ends each day, Southport town centre has plenty of bars and restaurants to enjoy.”
