Liverpool had to do their bit in beating Southampton to make sure the Premier League title race went down to the last day.
Jurgen Klopp picked a rotated side with the likes of Takumi Minamino getting the nod for his first start of the season in the league and Harvey Elliot getting his first league start since September.
There was no Virgil Van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson, Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara, Luis Diaz, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
145 – James Milner and Harvey Elliott are a starting Premier League match for Liverpool alongside one another for the first time. Milner made his Premier League debut in November 2002, 145 days before Elliott was born. Longevity.

With nine changes made there was a sense of nervousness amongst supporters in a must-win game to keep any title hopes alive.
Those nerves were not erased when Nathan Redmond fired Southampton into the lead for the game that was dubbed as their Champions League final by manager Ralph Hassenhuttl.
However the travelling Reds did not need to worry as to a man they were exceptional and the much better side.
Takumi Minamino scored to equalise before the interval and in the second half Joel Matip inadvertently headed the winner past Alex McCarthy as the ball hit the Cameroonian more than anything.

So now Liverpool are just two points behind Manchester City who could have all but wrapped it up against West Ham but Riyad Mahrez penalty was saved which kept Liverpool in with a shout just about.
Pep Guardiola’s side will welcome Aston Villa to The Etihad whilst Jurgen Klopp will welcome Wolves to Anfield.
It is a repeat of the 2019 final day.
This PL title race on the last day reminds me of when Liverpool scored around the same time Glenn Murray gave Brighton the lead against Man City in 2019. Yup, those celebrations didn’t last but what a day it was. pic.twitter.com/o0lNFHFWaP

Manchester City have to drop points whilst Liverpool have to win to be crowned champions, as simple as that.
No goal difference nonsense.
Steven Gerrard, one of the greatest to ever play for Liverpool yet he never won the league, will manage Aston Villa in a hope he can gift Liverpool the title.
.@MaddockMirror on Gerrard against Man City: "That slip. Those tears. The agony of never winning the title with Liverpool, never winning it in his entire career. Yet by taking points on the final day, he can win it for his former club. If that’s no romance, then nothing is."

Phillipe Coutinho and Danny Ings former Liverpool players who were very much liked whilst at the club can also provide a big helping hand.
No pressure then lads.
Whatever happens, what a season this has been from Liverpool and it is all down to the greatness of Jurgen Klopp.
One of the best to ever manage Liverpool football club, no wonder the fans sing about how they are in love with him.
