SERIES ONE – EDITION FOUR

In the fourth edition in our Scousers Abroad series we spoke to Joshua Smythe, aged 26, who is now living in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, the capital city of southeastern Brazil’s Minas Gerais state.

What area of Liverpool are you previously from?

I am from Old Roan area of Aintree.

What made you choose to move overseas and what made you choose your current location?

I originally received an opportunity from my Uncles friend to work as a plumber on the Atlantic island of Bermuda, i always wanted to broaden my horizons and experience the world outside Liverpool so I said yes without a thought.

From there I moved to Toronto, Canada working as a Plumber for two years before meeting my Brazilian wife and I eventually moved to my current location of Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

How long ago did you leave Liverpool?

I originally left six years ago but have had stints back home in between my changing of countries.

What do you miss most about the city?

I miss my comfort foods, my favorite chippy and going to a warm cozy pub in town with my good mates Ryan and Jay and having a full day of scouse humor.

If you could describe Liverpool in 3 words to the people of where you live now what would they be?

Passion, heart and pride.

Would you ever move back to Liverpool?

Yes. I feel that people don’t realize how privileged we can be living in the UK compared to 70% of the world.

If you could bring a piece of Liverpool with you to your current location what would it be?

A chippy that sells chinese meals but also amazing doner meat.
