Liverpool to light up pink in tribute to those affected by Southport incident

Liverpool City Council has announced it is joining forces with other parts of the city region to light up as a mark of respect and solidarity with everyone affected by the tragic incidents which took place earlier this week in Southport.

Iconic buildings such as St George’s Hall, Liverpool Town Hall and Cunard Building will all be bathed in pink, along with other landmarks including The Atkinson building in Southport, the Mersey Gateway Bridge, Chester Town Hall and hospitals from Friday 2 August – Sunday 4 August.

Sefton Council has issued an open invite to other public and privately owned buildings across the North West to also illuminate if they can do so to show their support and join in a united display of peace, solidarity and remembrance.

Liverpool City Council Leader, Cllr Liam Robinson, said:

“There is no doubt that these are testing times – but as we struggle to come to terms with, and process what has happened, it is vital we stand together, and allow the police and others the time and space to do their job.”

The Community Foundation for Merseyside, in partnership with Sefton Council and Sefton CVS, has activated an urgent fundraising appeal for all those affected by the knife attack in Southport yesterday.

The Southport Strong Together Appeal, which has already received its first donation of £50,000 from the Liverpool ONE Foundation, will help to meet the immediate and longer-term needs of those affected.
