SERIES TWO – EDITION TWO
In series two – edition two of our Faces of Liverpool series we caught up with John Charles aged 37 from Huyton; an Artist.
What do you love about Liverpool?
The architecture, I think we have some of the most incredible buildings in the world in our city.
Name one main thing about living in Liverpool that makes you proud?
I love how everyone pulls together in times of need, regardless of who you are, where you’re from…if you’re a scouser and you need help, you can always count on the people of Liverpool to help you. In fact, even if you’re not a scouser we’re always there to help.
If you could describe Liverpool in 3 words what would they be?
Boss, beautiful and kind.
Name one place in Liverpool that holds a special place in your heart?
The Walker art gallery, I proposed to my wife in front of a self portrait by artist Rembrandt, the gallery staff were in on the proposal and helped change the bio of the painting to my proposal (which was the same proposal that Rocky Balboa said to Adrian in the zoo haha)
Is there anything on your ‘Bucket List’ to do in Liverpool that you’re still yet to achieve?
To have my own solo art exhibition.
Do you have any tales of Liverpool or claim to fame while in the city?
Not sure if these are claims to fame or what but…. I did a painting of then Liverpool footballer Mamadou Sakho, he invited me and my daughter around to his home to meet him, take photos and have a little chat. Afterwards he put the image of the painting on his personalised shin pads, so on one shin pad was a picture of him and his family and on the other was the painting I did of him. Oh I also ended up in the echo after this, id done a nude photoshoot highlighting my battles with drink and drugs and someone noticed the I love St Helens tattoo on my thigh….the headline was “Artist who was invited to Mamadou Sakho’s house shows of his love for St Helens.”
