In the latest edition of our ‘Faces behind the Business’ series, we caught up with Neil Hodgson, General Manager for Mean-Eyed Cat, a Deep South dive bar in the heart of Liverpool.

When did you first get into the industry?

I first started in the industry in 2000 at TGI Fridays. Pulled my first pint and never looked back.

How long have you worked at Mean-Eyed Cat and what is your job role?

I’ve worked for Escapism Bars as General Manager for Mean-Eyed Cat Bar since February 2020 at our Leeds site. 

What is the Mean-Eyed Cat ethos?

To run our bar like you’d run a great party. Every guest should feel welcome, comfortable and be enjoying their night.

What’s the best bit of advice you could give to anyone looking at working in your line of work?

Have Fun and make sure you get enough sleep. It can be stressful working in our industry getting those much needed 8 hours is essential. 

What do you love most about Liverpool?

The people of Liverpool are the best. Super friendly and always up for a good time.

If you could describe your business in 3 words what would they be?

My Best 3 words to describe the industry are, Making People Happy.
