SERIES ONE – EDITION NINE
In the ninth edition in the Faces behind the business series we caught up with Jayne Rigby, aged 35, Head Coach of Liverpool SUP Co; Stand up paddle-boarding in the heart of Liverpool.
When did you first get into the industry?
I have always loved watersports, ever since I was little, so being adventurous was always in my blood. SUP is a relatively new sport but is also the fastest growing waterpsort in the world, and the fact that it’s in Liverpool is pretty cool. I first tried sup many moons ago on a break to Jersey, even though I kept falling in, I loved it! When I came back home to Liverpool, I bought my own board and the rest is history! I literally immersed myself into the sport and I haven’t looked back.
When did you set up the business and what is your job role?
The business is few years old now and my main role is Head Coach, but I also do the admin side of things like booking, marketing and all that jazz so my whole heart and soul is in this business.
What is Liverpool Sup Co’s ethos?
At Liverpool SUP Co, we specialise in the sport of Stand Up Paddleboarding. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned paddler, we can help. You have plenty of options to choose from, from personalised private tuition, group coached sessions or just a bit of fun, we’ve got you covered (you can even SUP with your PUP). You’re mental, physical health and wellbeing is paramount to us & we want to offer a truly different and unique experience in the city.Â
We’re also huge Ocean Advocates, and this at the heart of what we do. We’re lucky that we have access to the water & have the facilities to clean the docks. Our unique & historical docking system directly links to the Irish Sea, which is why our plastic paddles are so important.
Liverpool SUP Co proudly works in partnership with some amazing & innovative organisations as well as local businesses. Head to our website for more info.
Our mission is to create a more sustainable future, for our oceans and our children.
What’s the best bit of advice you could give to anyone looking at working in your line of work?
Be authentic. There will be bumps in the road and hurdles to jump but staying true to your brand & who you are will get you through those tough times, giving you a clearer vision of what your business means to you. Also, if you’re scared of water, this probably isn’t the job for you haha!
What do you love most about Liverpool?
Apart from the people (of course), I absolutely love Liverpool’s history, especially maritime! We’ve always been a city connected to the sea and it will forever be my port in the storm.
If you could describe your business in 3 words what would they be?
A Unique Experience
