In a summer without an international tournament it has, like always, been a tortuous wait for the football to come back on.
You end up staring at the opening day of fixtures just wishing it be the next day rather than a month away.
You end up doing your fantasy team earlier than ever before out of eagerness for a ball to be kicked.
You end up even travelling to Switzerland to watch your side in their first pre-season game against a second division Switzerland team.
Well several hundred Everton supporters certainly did to see the return of their beloved Toffees for the 2023/24 campaign.
It hasn’t exactly been a positive summer so far for Evertonians with nonsense that the transfer window can bring.
Everton have only signed Ashley Young so far on a free deal after his contract wasn’t extended by Aston Villa however he was absent in the first friendly.
The Blues had their first game against Stade Nyonnais who had just been promoted from the Switzerland third division.
So of course Sean Dyche’s men were the heavy favourites but as expected in the first game of pre-season the opening 45 minutes were far from thrilling.
An attempt from the Swiss side which saw the ball nearly reach the road in the background was the highlight.
The second half Everton made some changes with some youth players coming on and one of those was Katia Kouyate.
He showed some promise with great speed and nice dribbling before he opened the scoring with an explosive strike at the keepers near post.
Neal Maupay doubled the lead around 10 minutes later with a spot-kick which was won by Francis Okoronkwo.
Nyon got one back with not long to go with a powerful strike from Dylan Dugourd but Everton held on to get the win.
Next up for them is Tranmere Rovers and Wigan Athletic as the squad is getting split up for two friendlies on the same day. As we all edge closer to the first day of the Premier League season and no more boredom.
