Liverpool City Centre restaurant Crust, located on Bold Street, has scooped the award for Best Pizza in the UK at the Italian Awards for the third time.
The restaurant, competing against venues across England, Wales, and Ireland, gained recognition for its delicious, authentic wood-fired pizzas.
Owned by Italian brothers Paolo and Donato Cillo, who are also behind the city’s Italian Quarter in Williamson Square, Italian fine dining restaurant Il Forno, all-day eatery Botanico in Woolton Village and the popular Gran Caffe on Duke Street and Lark Lane, Crust has been home to Neapolitan-style pizzas since it opened in 2015.
With a menu filled with traditional pizzas including its Napoletana, Siciliana, Diavola and Zingara to name a few, Crust also has a selection of ‘Pizzaficionados’ – the special ones – which include Straccetti with sliced filet mignon, Porchetta with porchetta roast pork and caramelised onion and Nduja.
Crust is also renowned for its fresh, authentic pastas, its unique pizza wraps, and more recently, delicious brunch dishes, some that have been given an Italian twist.
The city centre-based restaurant also scooped the award for Best Pizza in 2019 and 2022.
The Cillo brothers and the team from Crust attended the Italian Awards evening in Leeds where they were delighted to accept the award for Best Pizza.
Paolo Cillo explained:
“Crust is home to Liverpool’s best and most authentic pizza. My whole family is from Naples and authentic Neapolitan food is part of our heritage. We’re honoured to win Best Pizza in the UK for the second time running and want to say a big thank you to all of our loyal guests… In crust we trust!”
Donato Cillo added:
“It’s fantastic to have our dishes recognised for their excellence. All of our ingredients are sourced from Italy to ensure that we create only the most authentic, traditional recipes. We’re so happy to have won this award and congratulations to all of the other award winners too!”
