Absolute Acoustic

September 19

The Halton-based podcast See You Down The Front is presenting another high-quality line-up of singer-songwriters from around the region in its Absolute Acoustic concert series.

The show, on Thursday September 19th, takes place once again at the British Music Experience inside Liverpool’s iconic Cunard Building.

Headlining on this occasion is Thom Morecroft, a Shropshire-born award-winning songwriter based in Liverpool.

He will be joined on the night by musicians Danny Bradley and Jenny Coyle, and this trio’s sound is a marriage of layered acoustic guitars, folk-pop harmonies and alt-country songwriting.

Described by founding editor of Mojo & Word Paul Du Noyer as “charming and addictive” and BBC Introducing’s Tom Robinson as “leaving you reaching for the replay button”, Thom’s live performances are typified by confessional music and stream-of-consciousness interactions with his audience.

His latest album ‘Waiting For Leo’ is available on local label 9×9 Records.

“It’s a thrill to have Thom as headliner, and his collaboration with Jenny and Danny is absolutely not to be missed,’ said Paul Cook, presenter of the See You Down The Front podcast.

Also joining the bill is Katie Nicholas – a singer-songwriter from Liverpool. With firm roots in Country/Americana, her work has been celebrated by local legends such as Billy Butler, Dave Monks, as well as the great Whispering Bob Harris – flying out to Nashville to perform on his showcase stage at Americana Fest.

She has gone on to have considerable BBC airplay and recorded at Abbey Road Studio as well as celebrating her independence and creative vision by producing her own music videos.

Captivating audiences with her skilful guitar-playing, poetic lyricism and enigmatic presence on stage, most recently Katie sold-out her headline show at the Liverpool Philharmonic Music Room in November 2023. Celebrating the release of her latest EP after years of music silence, “Feather” is dedicated to her mother Linda Nicholas who she lost suddenly at the beginning of the year.

In 2024 Katie embarked on her 50-song video series, the “Songwriter Diaries” where she explores 10+ years of her unreleased material which never saw the light of day. In an effort to “catch up” with where she left off, this series will run throughout the year.

Opening the evening will be John Bostock who has released two albums in the last three years – 2022’s It’s Not Going To Plan and Points of Light from earlier this year -despite being a late entry into the singer/songwriter world.

From Widnes, he writes songs of heartbreak and melancholy, performed with considerable heart and sincerity. John is also part of the Little Words duo with Kelly Cresswell who has, herself, appeared at a British Music Experience acoustic evening.

Tickets are £10 and Doors open at 6.30pm with the first performer on stage at 7.30pm.
