Queens Liverpol partners with Sarcoma UK in memory of Oliver Park

Queens Liverpool, a restaurant in the city centre is paying tribute to a young local lad by joining forces with Sarcoma UK to raise awareness of rare cancer in his memory. In a touching tribute to Oliver Park, who recently died from cancer, Queens Restaurant has partnered with Sarcoma UK to raise awareness and funds for sarcoma cancer research.

Launched during Sarcoma Awareness Month, this initiative honors Oliver Park, the son of renowned local DJ Graeme Park, who tragically lost his battle with this rare form of cancer last year at the age of 18. Throughout July and August, Queens Restaurant will add a discretionary £1 to every bill, with proceeds going directly to Sarcoma UK.

This charity is at the forefront of improving diagnosis and treatment for sarcoma, which accounts for less than 1% of all cancer diagnoses. The restaurant’s campaign aligns with Sarcoma UK’s ongoing billboard initiative, which highlights the often lengthy diagnosis process for sarcoma patients.

A powerful example can be seen on Prescot Road in Liverpool (331 Prescot Road, A57, L13 3BS), where a billboard displays personal testimonies of diagnosis delays, emphasising the urgent need for greater awareness.

Lucas Pires, co owner of Queens Restaurant, said:

“Oliver’s story touched us deeply. As a Liverpool business, we feel a responsibility to support our community and honour Oliver’s memory. By partnering with Sarcoma UK during this crucial awareness month, we hope to make a real difference in the fight against this devastating disease.”

Sarcoma UK Ambassador and father of Oliver Park, DJ Graeme Park who is a friend of Lucas, expressed his gratitude:

“I’m overwhelmed by the support from Queens Restaurant. This initiative not only raises crucial funds but also spreads awareness about sarcoma, which is vital for improving early diagnosis.”

“Many people, including medical professionals, aren’t familiar with the symptoms of sarcoma, which can lead to delayed diagnosis. Oliver was a bright light in our community, and this effort ensures his legacy continues to shine by potentially saving lives through increased awareness and support for research.”

The restaurant’s campaign follows a heartwarming community effort earlier this year when 65 staff members from Oliver’s school, St Hilda’s, ran a 53-mile relay in his memory. Queens Restaurant is urging Liverpool residents to dine with purpose this summer, turning each meal into an opportunity to support vital cancer research and remember a beloved local youth.
