Celebrating a double award, Liverpool ONE is scooping honours for its dedication to the site’s heritage and environment.
Situated in the centre of the retail and entertainment hub, Chavasse Park has maintained its Green Flag for the 12th year running thanks to its excellent condition.
Internationally recognised as “the Oscars of parks,” Green Flag is the government-backed accolade given by Keep Britain Tidy.
The five-acre park is renowned for hosting a variety of seasonal events, including one of the official Team GB and ParalympicsGB Fan Zones across the UK this year.
And, for the first time, Liverpool ONE has been awarded the Green Heritage Site Accreditation, supported by Historic England, which recognises the commitment of Liverpool ONE enhancing and putting the spotlight on the heritage across the site for visitors to enjoy.
Donna Howitt, Place Strategy Director at Liverpool ONE, said:
“Bringing communities together is at the core what we do at Liverpool ONE, we take pride in bringing our green spaces and heritage to play centre stage whether that’s through hosting sporting activities, music and entertainment, or simply taking some time out together as a family or group of friends.
“Chavasse Park is a unique green space in the middle of a vibrant, bustling city centre to do all of these things, and we’re incredibly proud to be recognised with a Green Flag for the 12th year running.
“To be awarded the Green Heritage Site Accreditation for the first time is also a huge achievement for us, as we’re incredibly committed to paying tribute to our rich history, through initiatives such as our Heritage Trail, our work in Memorial Garden and the partnership with National Museums Liverpool with The Old Dock Tour.”
Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award Scheme Manager, Paul Todd MBE, said:
“I would like to congratulate everyone involved at Liverpool ONE on achieving a Green Flag Award.
“Chavasse Park is a vital green space for communities in Liverpool to socialise, enjoy nature, for children to play safely and it provides important opportunities for park users to improve their physical and mental health.
“We know that staff work tirelessly to ensure that it maintains the high standards of the Green Flag Award, everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their achievement.
“It is important that our free to use spaces are maintained to the Green Flag Award standard, making them accessible for all members of the community while ensuring the environment is protected.”
