Beat Blue Monday with a splash of colour this January

Banish Blue Monday this January by releasing stress, anxiety and tension at England’s first interactive art studio in Liverpool.

Splash Art allows you to unleash your inner child and let your creativity run wild, allowing you to express yourself without any rules or boundaries.

While the third Monday in January is often touted as the most depressing day of the year, art has long been considered a form of therapy for those suffering with their mental health. In fact, Splash Art was born out of this very principle.

Founder Jasmin Unger, 28, who also founded Midnight Delivery and Bam Boo, explains:

“I first started creating art as a way of releasing the stress of running my own hospitality business. It is a fast-paced and high-pressure industry, with the added worry of trying to thrive and survive during and post-Covid.

“I’d come home and feel physically burnt out but I couldn’t switch my mind off and had trouble sleeping. I started painting and the transformation was remarkable. I felt liberated and joyful. It was a release and I’d go to bed with a clear head and wake up feeling ready to tackle the day ahead.

“I wanted to help other people leave the day-to-day behind and give them the freedom to express themselves. And so Splash Art was born.”

With the holiday season behind us and the long, dark days of winter still ahead, it’s no wonder that many of us feel a bit down during this time.

Creative activities are particularly therapeutic because they help you switch off from pressures, turn negative thoughts or feelings into something positive, and give people the opportunity to socialise.

Jasmin added:

“When you squirt, splatter and shoot paint, you can let all of your bottled-up stress and frustration out in a creative and productive way. This can be an extremely cathartic and therapeutic experience, allowing you to release all of the negativity that has been building up inside of you.

“While the simple act of splattering paint is very freeing and expressive, getting moving is also a great way to boost your mood and energy levels and spending time with friends and loved ones can help lift your spirits and remind you that you’re not alone. Not only will you feel better, but you will also have a work of art to show for it.”

Located in the heart of the Ropewalks district in a former theatre on Duke Street, Splash Art offers a variety of artistic experiences, including dart and spin. You can even blast each other in the dark with neon paint-filled guns.

The studio has capacity for up to 60 people and visitors can either paint alongside other customers, creating a vibrant and energetic atmosphere, or book a private party for a more intimate gathering tailored to your needs, making it perfect for everything from corporate team-building days to hen or stag parties. Not only can you create memorable experiences together but everybody will leave with their very own pieces of art.

Experiences start from £30 and are available to book here.
