Africa Oyé celebrate Black History Month in Liverpool with free shows and workshops

Africa Oyé is famous for its annual celebration in Liverpool’s Sefton Park but the charity also runs a ‘Learning and Participation’ programme through the year which sees a range of educational workshops hosted at local schools and arts venues, aa well as onsite at the festival.

In previous years Africa Oyé has hosted workshops with artists from the likes of Cameroon, Madagascar and Zimbabwe as well as with creatives closer to home from the Liverpool City Region.

The workshops this month will provide a unique cultural experience where participants can develop their aural, recall, improvisational and collaborative skills in a way that they will not have experienced through Western music teaching.

As part of the school workshops, students will watch a short musical performance by Diabel, learn about Senegal, take part in movement and team building exercises, learn a song and put together a small performance at the end of the session.

Tickets for the free lunchtime show at The Tung Auditorium are now sold out, but you can pick up any returns ahead of /on the day of the convert via the venue’s website. Please keep checking in!

Tickets for the evening workshop at Metal can be booked via Eventbrite.
