Speedo Mick passes £1 million dream fundraising goal

Speedo Mick has raised the £1 million he set as his “dream” fundraising goal, warning people not to let anyone “stamp on their dreams.”

Mick, real name Michael Cullen, has already completed his 120-day walk from John o’Groats to Land’s End, which he has billed as his final fundraising adventure. He completed his last fundraiser this weekend.

When he set out in December, Mick hoped to walk 15 miles per day to raise money for The SpeedoMick Foundation, a small grassroots charity that supports homeless people, underprivileged children and mental health awareness.

He paused his walk after reaching the £1 million mark to thank everyone who had “put a quid in my bucket or a note in my knickers.”

Prior to showing up to the home game of his beloved Everton Football Club in a pair of blue trunks with “Channel swimmer” written on his chest, Mick had completed a 2,000-mile, five-month trek across the UK and Ireland and swum the English Channel.

Its the final day of the stomp tomorrow (April 29th) so come down and bring everyone with ye????

Despite being a novice swimmer, Mick first made headlines in 2014 when he crossed the English Channel in under 16 hours. He has since been nominated twice for a Pride of Britain Award.

Mick said on Twitter:

“I’ve just been notified that we’ve reached the million pound mark as we’ve raised £200,000 on this walk.

“When I first started doing this I’d only raised a few thousand pounds.

“Someone said to me – what is it you want to do? And I said; what I’d like to do is raise a million quid. It’s taken me seven years but we’ve raised a million pounds.

“Don’t let anybody stamp on your dreams just keep walking.”
